Artist Zaw Win Pe was born in 1960 in Le Gaing village, Magway Division, Central Myanmar but he grew up in Yangon. He studied Art by taking evening classes in the State School of Fine Art from 1981 to 1984 and also learned under the supervision of the noted art masters U Ba Yin Lay, U Mya Aye, Bokalay U Kyaw Hlaing, U Kyaw Lay, U Lun Gwye, and U Win Pe Myint.
Zaw Win Pe has had ten solo exhibitions and over 40 group shows exhibited both within Myanmar and overseas including Paris, USA, Germany, Singapore, India, Thailand, and other parts of Asia. He is also the winner of the Myanmar Contemporary art awards which were held in 2004 by River Gallery and Myanmar Times.
In regards to collections, his paintings were acquired by the Singapore National Art Museum and Embassy of the United States of America, Yangon. In 2013, National Museum, Myanmar, and also his paintings were acquired by Staatliches Museum, Munich, Germany.
For added activities to his art journey, he has started running his art studio called ZWP Art Studio in North Dagon where the old paintings and present artworks are allowed to explore since March 2018.
He creates his emotion especially when he looks out over a particular scene. It seems as if his feeling is exploding and the hill is ringing with colors. What he believes is that color can tell everything about a person’s thoughts and feelings. Now he is shaping his soul through colors at his ZWP studio as a full-time artist.
