Artist Tin Htay Aung was born in 1975, in Nyaung Ai village, in Aung Lan Township, which is situated in the Sagaing region, Myanmar. It seems the hot and dry environment inspired the artist to create a crisp scene style.

He graduated from the National University of Art and Culture in 1997, in Yangon. After his graduation, he moved back to Mandalay, and there he continued his study under the art masters, U Tin Aya and U Kyaw Lay. It was where he focused on traditional forms of paintings.

He then began working as a lecturer in the art department at the National University of Art and Culture in Yangon.

In the late 2000s, U Tin Htay Aung decided to expand his repertoire, moving to China to study master of art at the Chinese Academy of Art in Hangzhou. He received his MA in oil painting in 2007.  Seven years later, he returned to complete a Ph.D. in Yangon
